During a survey
“Can’t reach your router”
On iPhone, GoodWiFi needs Local Network access to time your router. Open Settings → GoodWiFi and turn on Local Network, or tap Open Settings on the banner. On Android this message means your router doesn’t answer; GoodWiFi then maps internet response time and speed instead.
“Connect to the Wi-Fi you want to check”
A survey only starts on Wi-Fi. Join the network you want to map, then return to the app. If Wi-Fi drops during a survey, GoodWiFi keeps recording and marks the dropout on the map.
The badge says “Weak — hold the camera up”
Camera tracking works best with the phone held upright in a lit room, pointed at furniture and doorways rather than a blank wall or the floor. GoodWiFi keeps following you on steps and the compass meanwhile. If it asks you to, tap 📍 Name this room and mark where you’re standing to line things up again.
My readings aren’t on the floor plan
On a floor with a plan photo, GoodWiFi needs to know where you are on the plan. Tap 📍 Name this room, tap the map where you’re standing, walk a few steps, and do it again. Floors without a plan, and floors with a scanned map, need no taps.
“Network name unavailable — location permission is off”
Your phone only shares the Wi-Fi network’s name with apps that have location permission. GoodWiFi uses it for nothing else. Turn on location for GoodWiFi (while using the app) in Settings to see the network name and mesh access points.
“The speed test didn’t finish”
The test server may be busy, or the connection dropped mid-test. Wait a moment and tap Speed test again. Your other measurements keep running either way.
“Paused while GoodWiFi was in the background”
Surveys run only while GoodWiFi is on screen. Switching apps or locking the phone pauses the survey; it records again when you come back. The screen stays awake during a survey.
The phone gets warm
Camera tracking (and floor scanning on LiDAR devices) is demanding. It’s normal for the phone to warm up on a long survey. You can lower the camera between rooms; GoodWiFi carries on with step counting.
Floor maps
I don’t see walls being drawn
Scanned floor maps need an iPhone or iPad with LiDAR on iOS 17 or later. On other phones, add a photo of your floor plan from the floor’s menu, or survey without one: GoodWiFi shows the area you walked.
“Scanning paused — too dark” or “Move a little slower”
Turn on the lights and walk at an easy pace, pointing the camera at the walls. If the scan stops on its own, the survey continues and the walls found so far are saved.
“Couldn’t match the saved map”
A later survey couldn’t recognize the floor it scanned before (lighting or furniture may have changed). Tap Name this room in two spots a few steps apart to line up. To start the map fresh, choose Rescan in the floor’s menu.
Results
“Not enough readings here”
A floor needs a little more walking for a reliable map. Walk through each room at a normal pace next time.
There’s no Mesh layer
The Mesh layer appears when GoodWiFi saw at least two access points of your network, which also needs location permission. A home with one router won’t show it.
Why does my iPhone say “estimated” for mesh findings?
iPhones don’t let apps scan Wi-Fi signal strength, so GoodWiFi estimates stuck spots from where your phone switched access points. Android phones measure them directly.
GoodWiFi Home and Pro
Restore a purchase
Open Settings → Restore purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you bought Home or Pro with.
Where did my older surveys go?
Nothing is deleted. The free version shows the latest survey of your place; older ones are kept on your phone and appear when you have Home or Pro.
Cancel or manage a subscription
Home is a one-time purchase, so there is nothing to cancel. Pro is a monthly subscription; purchases are handled by Apple or Google. On iPhone, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android, open Google Play → Payments & subscriptions.
